What this means: The longest-serving judge will no longer be named President of the Supreme Court, but rather, the president will be selected by the Judicial Selection Committee. It would also be possible to appoint an “outsider” president, i.e., someone who is not necessarily a current judge. The bill will allow the coalition to decide who would replace the President of the Supreme Court, whose term will end this year.
The current situation: The President of the Supreme Court is the longest-serving Supreme Court Judge. The Deputy President is the second longest-serving judge.
